Metcon|TA Loving a Joint Venture is the general contractor for five new energy positive schools (three middle, one intermediate and one elementary) in Horry County.  The projects are well underway and are expected to be completed by the Summer of 2017. Metcon has completed 3 energy positive schools, and an energy positive electric utility building in the past 5 years.  SfL+a  is the lead Architect in conjunction with design-builder Firstfloor Energy Positive, working with consulting architects: Mozingo+Wallace Architects for exterior architecture and Stantec for interior architecture.

Each state-of-the-art facility will be a high-performance, safe and secure learning environment with classrooms, signature core spaces, and feature energy positive building systems. Each building features on-site renewable energy generation to produce more energy than the annual operation each school requires. The projects are equipped with roof-mounted photovoltaic solar panels, thermal energy storage, centralized geothermal HVAC, LED lighting, indoor air quality monitoring, an enhanced building automation system, and a superior building envelope.

"Metcon is honored to have the opportunity to work with Horry County Schools & SFL+a Architects to deliver these Energy Positive buildings to the students and community. “The new Energy Positive schools in Horry County will be an elite class of building setting the new standard in the U.S. for 21st century schools" said Aaron Thomas, President and CEO of Metcon,Inc.
