Metcon Breaks Ground on Cumberland County Jail Expansion

Groundbreaking for the Cumberland County Jail Expansion was held Friday, September 14, 2012. The groundbreaking was held directly behind the Cumberland County Detention Center.

 

Metcon and Balfour Beatty has team up on this project as a joint venture. The new expansion will add 316 beds to the jail. The jail was originally built to hold 568 inmates, however due to lack of space; the jail has been overcrowded with more than 640.

 

The $14.9 million project is expected to be completed by October 2013.
