Metcon Donates to UNC Pembroke's 35th Annual Region IV Science Fair

Young aspiring scientists from Robeson and the surrounding 10 counties proudly displayed their ideas in various forms inside the auxiliary gym inside the Jones Health and Physical Education Center.

Nearly 140 students took part in the 2016 North Carolina Region IV Science and Engineering Fair hosted by UNC Pembroke on Saturday, February 20.

Dr. Ritter said the goal of the Region IV Science Fair is to peak students’ interest in the fields of science and engineering.

“Their participation in events such as this will show them that science can be interesting, fun and rewarding,” Ritter continued. “We hope this will fuel an interest in science that remains with them long into their future.”

Ritter, a physics professor, became involved with the Region IV Science fair as a judge during his first year at UNC Pembroke in 1996.

“The Science Fair has changed drastically over the years,” Ritter said. “When I first started with the fair in the late 1990’s, it was held during what was known as the student activity period on Wednesdays.”
