Metcon, Inc. Wins ENR Award for Best Project in the Education Category



Metcon is proud to announce that it’s Sandy Grove Middle School project in Lumber Bridge, NC has won Engineering News & Record Southeast’s “2013 Best Project” for the K12 Category. Metcon was awarded this honor by ENR Southeast.


From Net Zero to Net Positive

Sandy Grove Middle School, a Lumber Bridge, Hoke County Schools educational facility that will be the first public-private partnership financed school in North Carolina and first of its kind in the nation. The 74,000 square-foot school is designed to meet LEED Platinum standards and will be a net-positive facility, one that returns more energy to the grid than it consumes. Innovative design and construction features include large photovoltaic and geothermal heating and cooling systems, high efficiency lighting, spray foam insulation, a whole building generator and solar panels. These measures will save Hoke County Schools and Hoke County nearly $35 million over the next 40 years. Look for Sandy Grove Middle School as one of the winning projects that will be highlighted in the upcoming November issue of ENR Southeast.
