Hoke County Schools, Sandy Grove Middle School

As the First “Net Positive” Public School in the United States, Sandy Grove was designed to generate more electricity on-site than it consumes. This 74,000 SF school was designed for 650 student core and was developed along with associated site development, track, athletic fields & lighting. It incorporates extensive LEED and Green Building components including large Photo Voltaic and Geothermal systems. The building is LEED Platinum Certified and has continued to perform and live up to its energy positive status by generating 40% more energy on an annual basis. The STEM school has incorporated the technology into their curriculum and an online dashboard updates energy positive data in real time throughout each classroom.
