Jones County Schools, New K-12 School

Jones County Schools,  New K-12 School

  • Location: Jones County, NC
  • Architect: SfL+a Architects

The new school is truly unique initiative for the county. It showcases a modern take on the traditional library, a food court themed cafeteria, agricultural focused, and a new hub for community gatherings.  The K-12 school is unlike anything Jones County has seen. Teachers are able to use the school as a learning tool with the internal dashboard that shows how the school is performing. The interior of the school is lined with glass walls to create more visibility and a sense of openness.

The 125,000 SF building has 3 wings, separating the Elementary, Middle, and High School students. This modern day K-12 school saves energy, money, and is significantly safer. By using geothermal well field heat pumps, LED lighting, high performance lighting and glass, a superior building envelope, natural daylight and over 100,0000 SF of solar panels, the building is predicted to create 30-50% more energy than it consumes.
