Industrialized Construction & Prefabrication

Building Smarter. Delivering Excellence.

Industrialized construction has been part of Metcon’s foundation since our founding in 2000. With more than 100 load-bearing cold-formed steel (CFS) panelized buildings in our history, Metcon brings over 25 years of expertise in prefabrication, construction innovation, and integrated project delivery.

Our approach combines offsite fabrication with proven construction expertise to improve building quality, enhance productivity, reduce onsite labor requirements, and accelerate construction schedules.

Proven Panelized Construction Experience

Metcon’s panelized construction experience spans student housing, educational facilities, institutional buildings, and other complex structures.

Our experience includes multistory load-bearing cold-formed steel framing systems, factory-fabricated structural wall panels, and coordinated building assemblies that improve construction sequencing and installation efficiency.

By producing building components in controlled environments and integrating them with onsite construction activities, Metcon can reduce weather-related disruptions, improve productivity, and deliver durable permanent facilities.

See Panelized Construction Come Together

At North Carolina Central University (NCCU), Metcon utilized panelized construction methods to efficiently erect structural building components.

The following video demonstrates how prefabricated load-bearing cold-formed steel wall panels are delivered, positioned, and installed through a coordinated construction process.

By moving portions of building assembly away from the jobsite and installing components in carefully planned sequences, industrialized construction can improve productivity, field coordination, and schedule predictability.

A Building Structure Takes Shape

Industrialized construction changes the pace and sequencing of building erection.

At UNC Pembroke’s Cypress Hall, load-bearing cold-formed steel wall panels were installed through a coordinated, repeatable construction process.

The following six-photo time-lapse sequence illustrates the progression of structural panel erection and demonstrates how quickly a building can take shape using prefabricated structural systems.

Prefabrication Changes How the Building Is Delivered

More Work Offsite. More Coordination Up Front. More Predictable Execution.

Traditional construction typically relies heavily on sequential field operations. Building components are delivered as individual materials and assembled onsite, with many activities dependent on the completion of preceding construction phases.

Industrialized construction changes that process by shifting selected activities into controlled offsite manufacturing environments.

Design coordination, procurement, fabrication, and quality-control activities can begin earlier, while site preparation, foundations, and other onsite construction activities proceed concurrently.

When prefabricated components arrive at the jobsite, they can be installed through planned, repeatable operations rather than being assembled entirely from individual materials in the field.

Advantages of Industrialized Construction

Improved Quality

Manufacturing in controlled environments supports consistent production processes, inspections, and quality control.

Schedule Efficiency

Offsite fabrication can proceed simultaneously with selected onsite activities, reducing the number of sequential construction operations.

Reduced Onsite Labor

Completing more assembly work before materials reach the jobsite can reduce field labor demands and improve productivity.

Improved Coordination

Early integration of structural, architectural, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) requirements helps identify and resolve construction conflicts before installation.

Safer Construction

Selected assembly operations can be moved from elevated or congested jobsites into controlled manufacturing environments.

Greater Predictability

Repeatable fabrication and installation sequences improve construction planning, production visibility, and schedule management.

Prefabricated Building Systems: Horry County Schools

Prefabrication Beyond Structural Panels

Metcon’s experience with prefabrication extends beyond load-bearing wall panels to complex mechanical and building-system assemblies.

At a Horry County Schools project, Metcon utilized a prefabricated mechanical penthouse that was assembled before being lifted by crane and positioned onto the building.

This approach demonstrates how major building components can be assembled in advance, reducing onsite installation activities, improving trade coordination, and supporting efficient construction delivery.

U.S. Army, Air Force & Navy BR-IC Portal Recognition

Following an extensive competitive evaluation under the Department of Defense’s Building Resilience through Industrialized Construction (BR-IC) initiative, Metcon received industrialized construction portal recognition through the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Navy.

This recognition establishes a pathway for Metcon to be considered for future project-specific opportunities involving industrialized construction of military barracks and dormitories, subject to applicable government procurement requirements and selection decisions.
