Metcon Celebrates Fayetteville State University’s New College of Education Ribbon Cutting

The new College of Education building officially opened its doors to students and educators on Thursday, Aug. 20, marking a major investment in the university’s teacher preparation programs and its long-standing role in educating educators.
The four-story,72, 027 square- foot college building presents a $69.3 million investment and a return to the institutions roots which began as North Carolinas’ first state supported school for training black teachers in 1877. The building includes classrooms, conference rooms, 30 learning and collaboration spaces including a mock court room, study areas, a 4th floor balcony, and faculty office spaces.
The facility is also expected to strengthen partnerships between the university, schools, and communities throughout the region.
Metcon, Inc. was the construction manager on the project and has built several buildings on campus including Rudolph Jones Student Center, Renaissance Residence Hall, Lyon’s Science Center and Planetarium, and Bronco Residence Hall.
Metcon President and CEO Aaron Thomas announced a new partnership with the university’s Construction Management Program which includes a $250,000 contribution to the program from their Education and Community Foundation, founded in 2020. Their foundation supports education and workforce development in the construction industry. This investment represents Metcon’s continued commitment to strengthening communities and their commitment to the outstanding HBCU’s throughout the state. They have done complex projects at North Carolina Central University, University of NC at Pembroke, and University of NC at Elizabeth City.
