Metcon Celebrates Ribbon Cutting at the UNC Pembroke American Indian Heritage Center

Pembroke NC

Established through federal grants in 2020, the American Indian Heritage Center provides programming open to all faculty, staff and students to learn more about the rich culture of Native people across our region and state.

UNC Pembroke is only the second institution in the state to establish a center to support American Indian students.

The center was relocated to the second floor of Old Main.  Metcon successfully provided major renovations resulting in office space, a conference room, and a study room. The ceremony celebrated the lives of Curt and Catherine Locklear, who donated to have the center named in their honor.

The Locklear family are prominently known in the Pembroke business community and whose ties to the university span eight decades.  Curt and Catherine are also the grandparents of Metcon’s Owner and CEO, Aaron Thomas.
