Renovations to the Historic Horseshoe area of University of South Carolinas’ campus, the project consisted of sequential renovations to the historical college dormitories: Rutledge and Legare-Pinckney. Two separate projects Rutledge: 28,000 SF| LeGare Pinckney: 24,000 SF that ran concurrently, Metcon renovated a total of 36 apartment units in each dorm while preserving the historical value of these 1890’s buildings. Our project included demolition, abatement, soil abatement, structural repairs, rough carpentry, miscellaneous steel, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, interior finishes, and exterior doors & windows. These projects are LEED Silver and required high safety requirements and awareness due to the high student and public pedestrian traffic being on the Historic Horseshoe area of campus. A site logistics plan was generated very early for this project and followed to meet all safety measures and identify the tight lay-down area during construction.
