Metcon Breaks Ground on Building a Legacy:  NC State Highway Patrol Troopers Museum

April 15, 2025, Raleigh NC

The NC State Highway Patrol Trooper Museum will create a permanent place to honor the lives, service, and legacy of the NC State Highway Patrol.  Established in 1929 by the NC General Assembly, these brave and resolute officers have served our state with honor to keep our highways and our citizens safe.  Located just across the street from their existing NC Highway Patrol Training Academy, it will offer engaging and interactive exhibits, educational programmed spaces and historical collections and dedicated spaces for honoring fallen troopers.  This immersive experience will connect all visitors to the critical role the NC State Highway Patrol Trooper has played in NC History.

Designed by SfL+a Architects, the 3-story building is approximately 14,000 sf of exhibits and educational spaces showcasing the history and collections of the NC State Troopers.  The third floor also has accommodation for overnight stays for training and special meetings. This building is more than a museum.  It is a place for remembrance and engaging our NC Community in the vital support and service our NC Highway Patrol provides.  It will serve as an inspiration and recruitment tool to connect young people to a career in service as a NC State Highway Patrol Trooper.

Metcon is honored to be a part of such an important part of our NC History.  Aaron Thomas, President and CEO, was among the distinguished speakers at the recent Groundbreaking event, “This facility will honor these brave officers that have served NC with such dedication and connect visitors to the vital role they have in the history of our State and keeping our citizens safe.”
